A HEDGEHOG has been rescued from the car park of the Haverfordwest branch of Lidl.

“He is too small to survive the winter and he was out in the day, a sure sign he is poorly,” said Beryl Steadman of the Pembrokeshire Hogspital. “He will stay with me now until Spring, and he will be treated for lungworm. This is the number one killer in this area and nearly all the hedgehogs have it.”

At this time of year, hedgehogs need to weigh at least 650g if they are to survive the coldest months.

“Please weigh any you find,” said Beryl. “If they are out in the day, they are ill. Please pick them up, put them in a high- sided box with scrunched up newspaper, keep them warm and telephone me on 01437 779461, for further advice or for admission into the Hogspital.”
