Crowds filled Fishguard Square for a service and wreath laying at the town’s cenotaph.

“It went extremely well,” said Royal British Legion branch chairman Cllr Gwilym Price. “The crowds were greater than previous years to do with people wanting to show their respect in this momentous year.”

On Saturday morning a remembrance service was held 12 miles off Strumble Head onboard the Stena Europe. Groups of cadets travelled onboard the ferry especially for the service and laid wreaths at the spot where the SS St Patrick was sunk by German bombers during the Second World War. As the wreaths were laid a rainbow appeared over the bow of the ship.

“Stena treated us very well,” said Cllr Price. “The crew were terrific and the young people very well behaved.”
