AT THIS time of year, we could all be forgiven for slowing down a little.

But for Haverfordwest Mayor Roy Thomas, putting his feet up is not an option. Backed by the Town Councillors, He is busy working his way through a list of issues affecting Haverfordwest.

“We have a duty of care to our town,” he said. “We are here to ensure the well-being of its community.”

Roy has long held concerns regarding derelict buildings in and around Haverfordwest, such as the ex-Peugeot garage in Portfield. He has written to Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) and is keeping tabs on the matter.

“I just want the people to know I haven’t forgotten about these eyesore buildings,” he said. “I’ve also complained to PCC about the rubbish dumped on Dew Street, near the Library and also further along. We want to find out who is behind this.”

Roy is also keeping an eye on potential plans for Haverfordwest’s Castle and Tourist Information Centre, as well as trying to do something about the state of Kensington Gardens.

“The developer left a mess, and it’s been there for months,” he said. “The right of way has been closed, and a children’s play area hasn’t materialised.”

The Town Council has serious concerns over PCC’s proposals for parking charges on St Thomas Green and Rifleman’s Field.

“We’re going to make some noise about this matter,” said Roy. “I can’t guarantee to solve all problems, but we’re certainly trying. If you have concerns about Haverfordwest, please call us on 01437 763771.”
