THE Christmas lights switch on in Fishguard and Goodwick has been hailed a sparkling success.

On Thursday, November 27 a large crowd gathered on Goodwick Square where they were treated to a performance by the brass band and carol singing from the children of Ysgol Wdig.

The Mayoress Rhian Lloyd did the countdown and there was great excitement when Father Christmas arrived in his grotto to hand out bags of sweets.

The following evening there was another large crowd on the Golden Mile for the highly anticipated switch on of the Christmas tree in Fishguard.

Goodwick Brass Band performed again along with the Ysgol Glannau Gwaun choir.

The Mayoress did the countdown and afterwards everyone headed to the Town Hall to visit Father Christmas and enjoy some festive refreshments.

The town clerk, Sarah McColl-Dorion said: “Great work was done by Centregreat Lighting Specialists Chris and Matthew who worked around the clock for days to install the lights.

“A huge thank you goes to the Fishguard and Goodwick Lions Club for their annual support, Mark Mordey from the Communities Together Program, young people from POINT, M & P Electrical, Linda and Michael Ogilvie-Davis, The Shamrock Pub and all the businesses which opened late and provided refreshments.”

She added: “Sadly our Mayor Mike Lloyd was too ill and in hospital to attend, but the lovely Mayoress Rhian Lloyd did a grand job standing in for him and delivered the countdown with poise and a smile. The Town Council is wishing Cllr Mike Lloyd a very speedy recovery.”
