CRYMYCH Fire Station rounded off a successful 2014 by handing over a £5,000 cheque to The Fire Fighters' Charity.

The money included a £2,000 donation as a result of Crymych Fire Station Choir's recent appearances on S4C’s ‘Am Ddrama’ and ‘Nadolig Wynne’, with opera singer Wynne Evans. A further £400 was raised by Crymych firefighter Jack Williams, who ran the Cardiff Half Marathon back in October.

The money will go towards a range of support programmes including physical rehabilitation and recuperation for members of the fire and rescue community in times of need.

The cheque was presented to County Councillor Wynne Evans, the Deputy Chair of the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority, at the station last month.

Cllr Evans said it is an "outstanding amount of money" and he praised the efforts and hidden talents of the crew members.

He added: “They fully embraced their involvement in the S4C Christmas shows and their record of fundraising for The Firefighters' Charity is remarkable.

“I would like to congratulate them and thank them for all they do.”

Earlier last year Crymych Fire Station was crowned Station of the Year at the Mid and West Wales Fire Service awards.

The crew was presented with the award at the Liberty Stadium after displaying a proven track record of maintaining 100% main fire appliance and co-responder availability year on year.
