A PEMBROKE Dock food company’s products have been showcased at the National Assembly after being recognised in the ‘Oscars of fine food’.

Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company received two coveted gold stars as part of the annual Great Taste Awards organised by the Guild of Fine Food.

Products from the Pembroke Dock-based company are being promoted alongside a variety of food and drink from Pembrokeshire and across the country at a ‘best of Wales’ special event in Cardiff Bay.

The company was awarded the honour for its Welshman’s Caviar, handpicked laver seaweed from the Pembrokeshire coast, dried and toasted and can be used in a variety of dishes.

Jonathan Williams from The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company said: “This is a great recognition of all of our hard work; Great Taste is a fantastic competition that’s well received by producers and buyers alike.

“The award is already opening doors for us on a UK level and hopefully that will continue in 2015. We’ve grown significantly in recent months and moved into new premises at the beginning of the year, with a bigger kitchen and production space.”

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and are among the world’s largest blind tested food award schemes. The gold stars are an acknowledged benchmark for speciality food and drink.

Winners have to undergo rigorous testing from over 400 highly regarded industry judges to earn their Great Taste 1, 2 or 3 gold stars.

The Pembrokeshire Beach Food company is well-known for its Café Mor beach shacks, which have been trading around Pembrokeshire and beyond since 2011.

Café Mor’s previous accolades include being named best vendor at the Best British Street Food Awards in 2011 and best street food/takeaway at the 2014 BBC Radio 4 Food And Farming Awards.
