THE new Mayor, deputy Mayor and Sheriff of Haverfordwest will be sworn in on May 21st, and the trio have big plans for their time in office.

Councillor Sue Murray is taking the lead, with Cllr Alan Buckfield as deputy. In his role as Sheriff, Cllr Chris Thomas will support them both.

“I would like to bring the Town Council back to the citizens of Haverfordwest,” said Cllr Murray. “I want to reach out to locals. I hope to do more to include and assist the disadvantaged in the community, and inform more people about the history and culture of the town to help give them a greater sense of pride in where they live.”

Cllr Buckfield is keen to organise and encourage more events, to bring greater numbers of people in to the county town.

“I think the three of us are heading the same way and have the same ideas,” he enthused. “I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.”

Cllr Thomas wants to forge stronger links with other local organisations and encourage younger generations to have more involvement with civic issues.

“We can get more done if we work with others,” he said. “I think we should visit schools to explain the Council’s work, and perhaps invite pupil councils to use our chamber for their meetings.”
