DID you attend Bolton Hill School? Former pupils are being invited to re-visit the old school building for a reunion on July 5.

Located near Tiers Cross, Bolton Hill School closed in the 1960s, over 80 years after a ceremony to lay its foundation stone in September 1876. The contractor for the building was a Mr William Evan Thomas of Wiston, who was described as “a young and enterprising builder” who undertook to do the work by April 1877 for the sum of £860.10s.

Details of the small rural establishment’s early years are available from school log books and more recent accounts have been given by past pupils, many of whom still live in the locality. An exhibition on the history of the school will be displayed at the reunion.

“So far, we have 66 names of living past pupils and I’m hoping to reach them all,” said event organiser Mary Smith. “The idea of having a reunion has been in the pipeline for quite some time, and while 2015 isn’t a special anniversary for the school, there’s no time like the present.”

If you attended the school and would like to share your memories and see old friends, please contact Mary on 01437 891459.
