MORE than 40 years of fun and friendship as a leader with the 3rd Tenby Brownies is being celebrated by Margaret Peake.

Margaret, who retired as Brown Owl in December, was the guest of honour at a vintage tea party organised by the pack last week.

A Brown Owl cake, a memory book and a quilt appliquéd with a flock of owls were presented to her by the Brownies and their current leader, Snowy Owl Kay Dagger.

“I was so touched by the thoughtful gifts, which had been made by past and present Guides and Brownies,” said Margaret. “I’ve seen so many girls go through the movement over the years and it’s always nice when you hear of them doing well.”

Joining Tenby Brownies at the age of seven, Margaret went on to become pack leader, and then Tawny Owl, assisting the then Brown Owl, Gertie Dinsdale.

She took over as Brown Owl around 35 years ago, following Mrs Dinsdale’s retirement.

“I don’t know where the time has gone,” said Margaret. “I’ve enjoyed being a Brownie leader so much and it’s made me lots of friends and created many happy memories.”

She is carrying on her involvement with Girlguiding as chairman of the Tenby Trefoil Guild.

She is also looking forward to visiting Westminster Abbey in November with her husband Tom for a Service of Thanks and Recognition.

The occasion is being organised by the Girlguiding and Scouting movements to mark outstanding contributions and long service by members of the organisations.
