TENBY Male Choir is on song for celebrations this year to mark its 40th anniversary.

The launch of its new CD, Hwyl a Hiraeth, is just one of the ways in which the popular choir is ensuring that 2015 is a landmark date in its history.

The year has already seen the company of gentlemen filmed for a documentary on male voice choirs and a number of memorable performances - including Sunday’s concert at Pembroke Castle where they shared the bill with Only Men Aloud.

And members are looking forward to two celebration concerts at St Mary’s Church, Tenby - with the Integra Brass ensemble on August 20 and on September 5 with the Talgarth Male Choir, Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir and Goodwick Brass Band.

Tenby Male Choir was formed in September 1975 by the late Graham Stubbs, and quickly went from strength to strength, touring extensively in the UK and further afield, including Holland, Gibraltar, Yugoslavia, Romania, southern Ireland, Gran Canaria and Malta. A visit to Malta is taking place in October as part of the choir’s anniversary celebrations.

As well as a busy schedule of Tenby concerts at St Mary’s and St Johns (correct), the choir will also be out and about in Lawrenny this Friday (July 10) and at Cresswell Quay on Friday August 7, as well as Saundersfoot harbour on Tuesday, August 11 and Tenby harbour on Tuesday, August 25.

The new CD features the choir in fine voice - under musical director Ian Williams and accompanist, Jill Williams - in a variety of favourites including songs from Les Miserables, Unchained Melody and well-loved Welsh tunes. Soloists are Tom Pearce, Paul Varallo and Duncan Hilling.

Copies are on sale through www.tenbymale-choir.org or at any concert.
