FOLLOWING recent vandalism at Pennar Hall, the local branch of the Royal Engineers Association has come to the rescue with a £2,000 donation.

Pennar Community Hall was annoyed by the damage that a £100 reward was offered for information on the vandals, who struck last month.

The hall was damaged between 9pm last Tuesday, July 28, and 2pm on Wednesday, July 29.

Some £250 worth of damage was caused when two double-glazed windows were smashed at the hall.

At the time Pennar Community Hall Chairman Councillor Tony Wilcox said the damage had left the hall vulnerable.

The Pembroke Dock branch of the Royal Engineers Association has now donated £2,000 to pay for all of the repairs and to install damage-proof coverings.

Branch President and Trustee Dennis Taylor said: “Our Royal Engineer Group is pleased to be able to help in this practical way and we hope to keep contact with the community hall in the future.”

Following the donation, Tony Wilcox said: “Bless him; it came out of the blue. That’s going to go a hell of a way.

“It’s £600 in materials; we’re going to put polycarbonate over the windows, it will give us a little bit of security, bricks will just bounce off; we’re doing the back and side ones, we didn’t want to make it look like a prison camp.

“Tesco is going to paint it on the inside as well; out of the bad news good news comes.

“The stuff is coming this week, using a local builder who’s putting it together properly and it will be open in a week or so.”

He said the reward still remained available, adding: “We don’t really anticipate anything but it’s just in case.”
