WHEN Councillor Sue Murray was sworn in as Mayor of Haverfordwest, she pledged to reach out to local people and make the Town Council more accessible.

True to her word, Cllr Murray, supported by Town Sheriff Chris Thomas and County Councillor Rob Lewis, was out and about at the Haverfordwest Farmers Market on Friday (August 28), chatting with residents and noting down their ideas and concerns about the county town.

“Our plan is to be at the Market on Fridays, unless we have other commitments,” said Cllr Murray. “We hope to be here throughout September, during the October half-term and over the Christmas holidays. It provides a chance for people to meet us and discuss local issues.”

Cllr Lewis said Pembrokeshire County Council was keen to support the Mayor and the Town Council.

“We’re both working towards improving Haverfordwest in whatever way we can, so it makes sense for us to co-operate,” he added.

Cllr Murray said it was great to have Cllr Lewis on hand.

“We’ve had some questions that concern the County Council’s remit, and we’ve been able to refer those people straight to Cllr Lewis,” she said. “It’s worked really well.”

In between handing out information leaflets about Haverfordwest, Cllr Thomas, who wants to forge stronger links with other local organisations and encourage younger generations to have more involvement with civic issues, said the Town Council’s presence at the Market had been “extremely productive”.

“We’ve spoken to lots of people and we’ve had some fantastic feedback,” he enthused. “I’m looking forward to our next session.”
