PEMBROKE community association Pembroke 21C is in the running to win an important national sustainability award in the first Sustain Wales Awards.

Foundry House-based 21C is one of 26 shortlisted for the awards, and is one of three groups competing for the Most Sustainable Community Group Award.

21C needs to secure the most on-line votes to win.

Through the awards, Cynnal Cymru seeks out and praises the best examples of their kind, cross-sector, across Wales. Over 65 inspiring applications were received for the first Sustain Wales Awards and the panel of expert judges have short-listed each category to go forward for the public online vote on their website www.cynnalcymru.com / www.sustainwales.com

Voting takes place up to October 9, and the winners will be announced at the first Sustain Wales Awards Ceremony at the Wales Millennium Stadium on November 19.

Chair of Trustees for Pembroke 21C Gareth Jones said: “Votes for Pembroke 21C will help us to continue delivering real change to our historic town.

“The challenge of sustaining Pembroke’s socially diverse community is at the heart of every project we develop. From the creation and management of outdoor community spaces to learning to bake bread together we have shown that small changes can have a big impact – celebrating our heritage, enhancing the world around us, building social networks and helping the vulnerable and disadvantaged to prepare for change.

“Winning the award will not only enable us to continue this invaluable work, but will also acknowledge the hundreds of hours of voluntary time that local people quietly devote to help us to deliver real change for the benefit of all who live and work in Pembroke, now and in the future."
