PEMBROKE’S Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur took on the role of a shop and cafe recently, throwing open the doors for a Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Parents, pupils, staff and friends of the school had evidently been busy making cakes of all shapes, sizes and colours, as well as biscuits and some savoury nibbles.

The towers of cup cakes were set off by the donated cakes whilst the tables were laid with plates of delicious biscuits.

Pupils circulated amongst the guests with quiz sheets, drumming up support for the raffle, while guest of honour, Pembroke Mayor Cllr Pauline Waters donated some superb meringues.

The hall was thronged with parents and family members, who readily engaged in supporting the fundraising efforts as staff members did a brisk trade in both hot and cold drinks.

The efforts of the school raised £500 for Macmillan.

Head Teacher Andrew Williams said: “We are proud to have been involved in the Macmillan Coffee Morning. We understand well the important work done by Macmillan and our donation goes with very best wishes to them as they support people with or recovering from cancer.”

A Macmillan Coffee Morning was also held recently at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, with a castle of a cake with chocolate ramparts just one of the delights awaiting visitors.

Created by one of the Sunderland Trust’s Volunteers, its sale helped the Centre’s Volunteer Team raise nearly £235 for Macmillan Cancer Research.

The coffee and cakes proved extremely popular with visitors to the Centre, in the former Royal Dockyard Chapel.
