AN 11FT TALL illuminated skeleton will stalk the streets of Haverfordwest this Hallow’een.
The giant puppet is the centerpiece of the ‘River of Lights’ lantern parade, inspired by the folk tale of the skeleton woman and the fisherman and
organized by The Lab arts and regeneration project, in partnership with local artist Toby Downing and SPAN Arts.
Hundreds of lanterns made at school and community workshops will accompany the skeleton as it sets off from The Lab’s riverside headquarters at 6.30pm on Saturday (October 31). Accompanied by musicians and a shoal of giant lantern fish, the procession will pass along Bridge Street, through Castle Square, along Quay Street, over the river and around Picton Playing Fields to Fortunes Frolic for a spectacular fire sculpture finale at approximately 7.15pm.
The route is about a mile long and is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchair users.
“It’s not too late to get involved,” said Toby, who made the skeleton. “There are still two more days of drop-in lantern-making workshops at the Lab from 10.30am to 4pm on Thursday and Friday this week (October 29 and 30).”
Lanterns will be available for collection from the Lab from 6pm on Saturday. Carrying sticks and safety instructions will be provided to enable everyone to join in this magical and slightly scary candle-lit celebration of community and creativity.
Wrap up warm, and wear waterproofs and wellies if it’s wet. The parade will go ahead whatever the weather! For safety reasons, please do not wear Hallow’een costumes.
