DURING November - the month of Remembrance - there is a special display of medals at the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre.

On view are new additions to the centre’s medal collection including the OBE Military Division and campaign medals belonging to the late Wing Commander Derek Martin.

Wing Commander Martin was Patron of the Sunderland Trust - which runs the Heritage Centre - up to his death last year.

In 1940 Derek Martin flew Sunderland T9044, the aircraft which sank in the Haven Waterway 75 years ago this month. Many parts of T9044, recovered by divers from the wreck, have become the Heritage Centre’s interpretation centrepiece.

Visitors are invited to bring along medals and share stories about them. Sunderland Trust Volunteers will usually be on hand to discuss the medals and hear the stories.

And those who bring medals along can claim a free tea or coffee. Admission fees apply.
