A MUSICAL based on a classic Dickens tale proved a sell-out hit at Pembroke Dock’s Pater Hall.

The performances of Vocal Energy's Scrooge on December 17 and 18 were both greeted by a standing ovation.

The performances, a musical twist on a classic tale, were beautifully narrated by Allison Butler, playing a Scottish nanny telling the story and guiding the audience through each scene.

Scrooge, played by stalwart Marc Styles, is woken by his dead business partner Jacob Marley, played by Hulda Write, who warned Scrooge to change his ways or he would end up like him, in chains.

The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future played by Holly Butler, Danielle Miller and Nathan Lawrence.

Caitlin Rowley beautifully played the part of Scrooge’s lost love, while Charlie Lawrence and Kristy Cook played Scrooges nephew and wife, who did their best to get Scrooge to come and visit them over Christmas.

The long-suffering clerk Bob Cratchit was played by newcomer Nathan Scott, with his wife played by Janita Taylor, who also produced and directed the show.

They had the audience in their grasp, as they played out the scene of Tiny Tim's demise, during the scene of Christmas future.

Jamie George, playing Tiny Tim, had the audience in tears as he sang before being taken away by the angels.

This was followed by the dramatic scene of the funeral, which ended with Tim’s mum all alone cradling his crutch over the gravestone.

The atmosphere was electric during this scene, and you could hear a pin drop.

As well as the main leads, many members of the chorus had individual solos, backed up by full chorus song and dance routines. The enthusiastic cast of 42, from the ages of six to 70-plus, filled the hall with beautiful harmonies, leading to tremendous applause from the audience which grew in length as the show went on.
