AT the recent Urdd National Swimming Championships held in Cardiff, Lamphey Primary School became national champions.

On January 23, under the watchful eye of Ruth Williams, the children performed to the highest standard, with some exceptional performances by individuals and the team.

Lily Busby reached the Year 4 backstroke final with a new personal best time, Charlie Shiels won gold in the Year 6 backstroke and silver in the 100m individual medley, Hannah Greenwood took Bronze in the 50m backstroke.

The day came to a fantastic end with the mixed relay team, consisting of Hannah, Charlie, Ioan and Lena, winning the Gold medal and being crowned Welsh Schools’ Champions.

Headteacher Simon Thomas said: “The school is so fortunate to have so many enthusiastic, talented children who have been coached to such a high standard by the local swimming club in Pembroke Leisure Centre. It is such a pleasure to see children having these opportunities so they can reach their full potential.”
