PEMBROKE and Pembroke Dock’s new mayors and deputies have taken up their positions for the 2016-17 year.
On Friday, May 6, Pembroke Dock Mayor Peter Kraus was replaced by Councillor Maureen Colgan, with Councillor Jane McNaughton selected as deputy mayor.
The mayor and deputy’s inauguration took place at a special ceremony held at the town’s Pater Hall.
The following day, May 7, Councillor Dennis Evans became the 637th Mayor of Pembroke at the town council’s AGM, taking over the role from Councillor Pauline Waters.
Cllr Evans, co-opted to the council in 2011, has previously been described as someone who would give “120 per cent effort” in serving the town.
Cllr Evans praised the existing mayor on her success during her year, particularly her work with supporting local youngsters, adding: “I would like to carry on your work with providing the young people with a purpose, and a desire to live here.”
The position of deputy mayor is Councillor Dai Boswell, nominated by Councillor Aden Brinn, and seconded by Councillor Jon Harvey.
Cllr Boswell’s “can-do attitude” was praised.
Cllr Boswell said: “It gives me a big buzz knowing all of you have the confidence in me to give a go at it.”
The following day, Pembroke’s Mayor’s Civic Parade, led by the 948 Squadron ATC, took place in the town, with the divine service at St Mary’s Church.
