PEMBROKE’S Golden Grove School has seen some recent notable successes on the football field and in a literary competition.

Year 3 and 4 children, who took part in the Welsh Books Council competition in Haverfordwest, had to do a discussion on Top Dog by Emma Rea and a presentation on The Keeper's Secret by Diane Doona. They will now compete in the Welsh finals in Brecon in June.

Diane was present to see the children in action and praised them for their work.

The author, Dan Anthony, was one of the judges and was highly complimentary of the children. Dan is well known to Grove School and the children thoroughly enjoyed a short workshop session with him as well.

The school would like to thank Johnny, Chloe and Mrs Bruce for all the work that they have put in with the children.

The Urdd Football Team recently headed to Aberystwyth for the Urdd Football Finals. They played very well and progressed to the semi-finals but lost 1-0 to Ysgol Y Castell.

The boys topped their group by beating Trelin (Caerphilly) 1-0 in the first game; they then beat Bro Sion Cwilt (Llandysul) 2-0 and they drew 0-0 with Maesincla (Caernarfon) in the final group game. They played some excellent football to beat Dderwen (Carmarthen) 2-0 in the quarter-final.

This proved to be an interesting game for teacher Bethan Lewis as her son was playing for Dderwen.

The excellent football continued with the boys in the semi-final where they dominated the game and created numerous chances. Unfortunately, they were unable to finish any of them off and we were then beaten by a cruel deflection.
