PLANS to site a launderette in an “eyesore” portable building at the entrance to Pembroke have left the town’s councillors in a spin.
At the July meeting of Pembroke Town Council, members considered an application by Daren Briggs to site the laundrette at Bush Hill Service Station.
Councillor Jon Nutting said: “I’m absolutely gobsmacked considering this; we are a medieval town, it looks nice at the start but we’ve got to think what it will look like in 10 years’ time, it will be an eyesore right at the start of the town.”
He later said: “If that goes where it’s proposed there will be uproar; the people of Pembroke will say: How did you let that happen?”
However, Councillor Melanie Phillips felt the proposal was a very good idea, adding: “For the people of The Green this would be a very good facility.”
Councillor Keith Nicholas later agreed with both points but felt a standard design of building would be more in keeping with the area.
Members objected to the application on the grounds of visual impact, access to the nearby road and on design.
