WHILE Saundersfoot’s New Year’s Day swim grabs the laurels as the most popular way to brave the chilly waters in Pembrokeshire, Angle’s third-ever chance to see in the start of the year with a brisk dip is growing year-on-year.

The Angle swim saw more than 50 brave souls take to the sea, raising funds for Paul Sartori and the Wales Air Ambulance.

Organiser Joanne Lutwyche said on the day: “There was an absolutely fantastic turnout for our third annual swim - just did a quick count of all of the donations and sponsorship and just today we raised a whopping £860, plus we have some online donations and there are a few donations still need to come in.”

Speaking after the event, she said: “It went really well, we had 51 in the water, a really good turnout, up from 47 last year.

“There was no theme, it was just basically people turning up and taking part. It was cold, very cold, but everyone who went to the water staying in and a few of them staying longer than expected.”

Joanne praised the role of the many supporters who cheered on the brave swimmers.

“It’s not just the amount of swimmers that go in but the supporters; it was a cold day and we did get a really heavy rain shower but people were still happy to come and cheer along. There were about 200 supporters, the car park was full; it was like a summer’s day.”
