PEMBROKE & District Male Voice Choir is celebrating a special birthday this year.

The choir, formerly known as the Pembroke Boro Choir, has reached the grand old age of 65, having been formed in 1952.

One of the founder members of the choir, Owen Jones, still lives in Pembroke Dock, and a local family has had many years of involvement.

The founder conductor was WP (Bill) Lewis MBE, former principal of Vauxhall dealers WP Lewis & Son, who passed away in 1999.

His daughter, Christine, became deputy accompanist, and later accompanist, and finally conductor, recently celebrating 50 years of service to the choir, which boasts it has never charged for its services.

Her husband, Phil Lloyd has been a member for 52 years, secretary for 32, and choir compere for 42 years.

Their daughter, Jenny Griffiths, has been deputy accompanist at the choir, later becoming accompanist when her mother became conductor.

Jenny has given 32 years of service to the choir, and her brother Steve Lloyd, now managing director of WP Lewis, has been a member of the bottom bass section for 18 years.
