A FUNDRAISING walk to help members of Pennar Community School Choir visit Disneyland Paris to sing on stage took place in Stackpole on Sunday, February 5.

Some 10 families took part in the walk.

This will be the second time the choir has travelled to Paris to entertain and enthral the crowds.

Back in 2015, some £6,500 was raised to take 26 members of the 32-strong school choir to Disneyland Paris for a cultural event which took place just after St David’s Day.

This time the trip is expected to cost some £9,000.

The choir, one of two in the area, will be performing on stage on March 4, leaving for Paris on March 2.

Pennar School Headmaster Damon McGarvie said: “We intended to do it once as an experience, but because we won the Pembrokeshire male voice choir last year we had parents asking if we could take them again.”

The school and pupils have been raising funds for the trip, with events including sponsored bag packing and carol singing in the run-up to Christmas, with a third of the costs being met by the school itself.

One of those who took part in the walk was Pembroke Dock councillor Peter Kraus, who said: “To be involved with Pennar Community School and those very well-mannered children was an absolute pleasure. Hope lots of money was raised towards the Trip to Disneyland Paris in March. Well done all. Now you can relax after the long walk.”

A fundraising event is also planned to take place at the Quins rugby club on February 10, from 7pm, featuring Chris Didcote, Glyn John, Pennar Community School Choir, and DJ for the night, the one and only Lionel Nutting.
