AN ANNUAL programme of innovative drug awareness workshops, supported by Pembroke Rotary Club and Valero Pembroke Refinery, has been successfully rolled out to Year 6 pupils across the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock catchment area.

Led by Theatr Fforwm Cymru, the workshops use interactive drama and group activities to help pupils explore some of the risks around drug taking and peer pressure that they might encounter as they go to secondary school.

Valero Refinery Public Affairs Manager Stephen Thornton praised the initiative: “Pembroke Refinery’s support for these educational workshops has entered its 18th year, and we are as enthused now as we have always been in ensuring our schoolchildren approach the new challenges ahead of them in a smart way. Our thanks as ever goes to Pembroke Rotarians and Theatr Fforwm Cymru for their efforts.”

Ken Chung, president-elect of the Rotary Club of Pembroke, which organises these events as part of its long-running community service programme, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Valero and Theatr Fforwm Cymru in bringing these wonderful workshops to our local schools once again.

“Pembroke Rotary Club is committed to making lasting changes to our local communities, and this long-standing programme is a wonderful benefit for schools and pupils in Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.”
