THE past few weeks have been busy for pupils from Pembroke’s Golden Grove-Gelli Aur School.

There were some notable performances at the Area Urdd Eisteddfod. In the second language Welsh category Nathan came second in the poetry recital competition for Year 2 children. In the first language Welsh category, Jack came second in the poetry recital for Year 3/4, and Amelia came third for Year 2. Marilla won both the singing and the poetry recital competition, and will now go through to the Pembrokeshire Eisteddfod in Fishguard later this term.

The school’s rugby team was given a warm welcome at Lamphey School recently. Three exciting games were played, which gave some of the pupils a chance to compete with fellow players, who later went on to play against Tenby.

In the Dyfed cross-country, the Year 3 boys' team and the Year 6 girls' team were both team winners.

Jess and Morgan will both be running for Dyfed in the upcoming event at Margam Park, having come 10th and first respectively in their Year 6 races.

Gelli Aur was joint winner of the whole competition, following the success of winning the Pembrokeshire Oakwood event in the autumn.

In the classrooms there has been some exciting work going on. The school recently welcomed four STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) ambassadors as a part of National Science Week.

Workshops on astronomy, sustainability, growth and electricity were run at the school.

In other school news, staff member Miss Fallon Clancy has left Golden Grove to take up a new appointment. She has been a part of the school for many years and will be sorely missed.

Paying tribute to Miss Clancy, Head Teacher Andy Williams said: “Fallon has been a fantastic part of our school team, we wish her well in her new job in Ysgol Casblaidd. Pob lwc Fallon, diolch.”
