A SPLENDID night of musical entertainment was enjoyed by all who attended the recent performance of Pembroke & District Male Voice Choir, at St Katherine's Church, Milford Haven.

The concert was in aid of Milford Haven Rotary Club Charities.

Following the introductions and thank yous from Rotary Club President Owen James, the choir sang three songs: American Trilogy, Bring Him Home, and When the Saints Go Marching In.

Then came the turn of guest soloist, 17-year-old Thomas Carew, saxophonist and winner of the Milford and Pembrokeshire round of the Rotary Club's Musician of the Year 2017 competition.

Thomas, accompanied on piano by Sarah Lloyd, gave a marvellous rendition of Bach's Sonata in G Minor, followed by Gypsy Songs by Jozsef Balogh.

The choir then sang another three songs, to end the first half, with Cwm Rhondda, Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn, and Rachie.

Following the half time thanks, the choir started the second half with three songs: With a Voice of Singing, Anfonaf Angel, and Stout Hearted Men.

This was followed by the choir's own flautist Alyson Griffiths, with lovely renditions of Cavatina, and Somewhere, then Jenny Griffiths joined Alyson to sing together Ffos Felen.

The choir brought the concert to an end with three songs: As Long as I Have Music, Sunset Poem, and the rousing African Prayer.

Following presentations of flowers to the choir ladies, refreshments were provided for all in the church hall.

As always, the evening was interspersed with the sharp wit and oratory skills of M/C and choir sec, Phil Lloyd.
