HOUSEHOLDERS and churchgoers who had to navigate a pot-hole ridden lane near Cosheston are celebrating after Simon Hart MP won a campaign to get the road resurfaced.

Resident Susan Paterson-Jones first contacted Mr Hart in January 2015 and wrote: “We have lived here for 18 years and have never seen it in such a state, people visiting the church do not want to be going over dreadful bumps in the road, especially when they are going to a funeral.”

Mr Hart has spent nearly two-and-a-half years in negotiation with Pembrokeshire County Council about the state of the lane which is a By Way Open to All Traffic (BOAT).

The council has now hard surfaced the road and is considering reclassifying it as an unclassified road.

“This is wonderful news because householders, businesses and churchgoers were all suffering because of the terrible state of this lane,” said Mr Hart. “With the amount of rain that we get in Pembrokeshire any temporary repairs were being immediately washed away.”

Kate Kenniford from Nash Farm Shop which is next to the church at the end of the lane said: “We have already had a couple in today who used to come religiously but two years ago they stopped coming because of the damage that was being done to their car. It’s absolutely brilliant news for us.”
