THE Rotary Club of Pembroke has selected a new president, local businessman Rotarian Ken Chung.

Handing over after a successful year the outgoing president Rotarian Emyr Williams handed over his chain of office and thanked all the members for their exceptional support during his year of office.

He wished Rotarian Ken every success for the forthcoming 12 months and also congratulated Rotarian Robert MacLaren for being appointed President-elect. Robert is again a local businessman.

Rotarian Ken thanked outgoing president Emyr and all the members for this honour: “I joined the Rotary Club of Pembroke in 2011 and have seen the club run the drug awareness and kids’ day out programmes for our local primary schools. The club has also hosted the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra at Folly Farm for many years and put on a musical extravaganza and other events at Manorbier Castle for nearly the same period.

“In recent years the club has sponsored and run a community raffle in which local charities participate to raise funds for themselves. Furthermore, the club has also supported Rotary International projects such as the Polio Plus programme, which is delivering the eradication of polio from the planet.

“These meaningful projects encourage me to serve our club, whose motto is Service above Self, and it is a great opportunity and honour to be club president this year and as such I shall continue to support the club along with our members in delivering these programmes in the future.

“Finally, I'd like to thank my fellow club Rotarians and everyone who has supported our club in the past and I hope you will continue to do so in the future.”
