THREE veteran ex-RNLI lifeboats are scheduled to visit Angle RNLI’s open day on Saturday, August 5.
The trio will be headed by Angle’s former Watson class lifeboat, Richard Vernon and Mary Garforth of Leeds, which served at the station from 1957 to 1987 and is now owned by Bevis Musk.
She will be joined by the Pentland, also a Watson class lifeboat, which served at Thurso and Mumbles and is now owned by Angle RNLI’s Deputy Launch Authority, the Rev Mike Brotherton, retired Royal Navy Chaplain.
Completing the line-up will be the Liverpool class lifeboat, The Always Ready, which was built in 1933 and served at the Runswick station, North Yorkshire, until 1954.
Visitors to the open day will have the opportunity to meet Angle lifeboat volunteers, tour the £1.2m boathouse and see the all weather and inshore lifeboats.
On view will be the £2.6m all weather state-of-the art Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason and the relief £41,000 D class inshore lifeboat, Northern Light. She is on station at Angle, while its own inshore lifeboat, SuperG II, undergoes maintenance.
The open day, which coincides with Angle Regatta, runs from noon to 4pm.The all-weather lifeboat will be launching at 6pm, to lead a parade of the veteran lifeboats into Angle Bay.
