IT was soup-er bowl Saturday this weekend in Fishguard and Goodwick as the Round Table’s annual Cawl Crawl saw 17 local businesses ladling out their finest.

This crawl is now in its tenth year. This year 2,050 bowls of cawl were served in venues in Fishguard, Goodwick and Lower Town, with some venues running out of cawl due to the popularity of the event.

Cawl crawlers rated the sampled soup in each venue they visited, voting for both best cawl and best atmosphere.

In a closely fought competition Goodwick’s Ocean Lab took home first prize for the best cawl with last year’s winners, A&E Nichols coming second and The Rose and Crown coming third.

Winner of the prize for the best atmosphere was newly opened Fishguard business, House of Beauty, previous winners the Globe came second and A&E Nichols came third.

“The day went really well and I'm delighted with the great turnout and support from the local community and visitors to the town,” said Round Table chairman Gwilym Evans.

“Thank you to all 17 businesses that took part this year and made it a very special day. The standard of cawl was phenomenal and this year's contest was one of the closest we've had.

“The event continues to grow even in its tenth year and we're looking forward to what delights the next 10 years of the Cawl Crawl will bring us.”
