A LADIES rugby team have dared to go bare for a charity close to their heart.

The brave Borderettes from Whitland RFC got their kit off for a good cause and raised £1,000 in the process.

The girls posed for a naked calendar in aid of British Heart Foundation Cymru (BHF) at the inspiration of their team manager, Suzanne Davies, who had a quadruple heart bypass at Morriston Hospital seven years ago.

“I didn’t realise how poorly I was until I went to the doctor for a check-up,” said Suzanne, now 61. “It was pretty scary at the time, and it took me 11 months to recover, but I’m now leading a full and active life, so I wanted to say thank you to the BHF”.

Suzanne has been involved with Whitland RFC for 40 years and manages the club’s under 18s and under 15s girls sides, as well as the ladies team.

Western Telegraph:

Whitland ladies team manager Suzanne Davies and players raised £1,000 for BHF Cymru.

“We had a lot of fun doing the calendar, and nearly 200 have been sold,” she added.

“We also raised another £250 from doing a Ladies Day, which has also gone to the BHF.”

This was the third fund-raising calendar that the team had sportingly posed for, with the first raising £1,800 for Breast Cancer research and the second bringing in £1,000 for Prostate Cymru.

Said BHF fundraising manager for south west Wales, Jayne Lewis: “I would like to say a big thank you to Suzanne and the ladies rugby team for all their help and support in raising funds for BHF Cymru.

“Around 375,000 people across Wales this month are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease.

“Too many lives are lost in Wales each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation.”
