TRANSITION Cafe in Fishguard has welcomed two new members of staff.

Rosie Jones and Fay Ford are local young people who have been employed through the Jobs Growth Wales scheme.

They are being trained to cook meals using the surplus food that is given to the cafe by local people and businesses.

They have already been cooking up a storm in the kitchen, producing some delicious cakes, soup and bread rolls.

Rosie and Fay will also help run community events, like fun cookery sessions for children and families, and growing your own.

Chris Samra of Transition Bro Gwaun said: “We are delighted to have them with us as it will give them the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience, and it will mean that Transition Cafe can develop new services. At present we open Tuesday to Thursday, but we’ll be able to open on Fridays from April onwards and also run more weekend and evening events.”

The first event will be Seedy Saturday, which is a seed and plant swap being held on Saturday, March 15 from 10am to 2pm. People can bring their spare seeds, plants and cuttings to the cafe and take home something new to grow.

Kate McAvoy from Real Seeds and Transition Bro Gwaun volunteers will be there to give advice on sowing and growing.
