THE official opening of Fishguard and District Soroptimists 2014 International Women’s Day exhibition took place on Tuesday, March 4 in Fishguard Town Hall.

Local County Councillor Pat Davies, chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Education Scrutiny Committee, and Kate Evan-Hughes, Head of Education, opened the event.

They both complimented the Soroptimist club members on an impressive display and said how delighted they were to see the excellent, colourful and informative material contributed by local primary school children.

Year five and six pupils from Ysgol Ger y Llan, Ysgol Glannau Gwaun, Holy Name, Croesgoch, Puncheston, Goodwick and Wolfscastle schools attended a ‘Challenge Day’ to research and produce material based around the countries the club has supported through a CARE International ‘Lend With Care’ initiative.

The exhibition can be seen during library opening hours until Sunday, March 23.

During the evening members and guests were reminded that the next event is an open meeting on April 1, when Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon will give a talk about his year in office and answer questions from the floor.

The talk takes place at the Fishguard Bay Hotel, starting at 8pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
