TWO talented students from Ysgol Bro Gwaun have been chosen to go on a trip of a lifetime this summer.

Sixth formers Amy Leahy and Isaac Davis have won the opportunity to study in America, as part of the prestigious Sutton Trust US Programme.

They will experience a taste of life at an American University after beating off hundreds of hopefuls in a tough application process.

After submitting an official application, candidates were asked to film a video introducing themselves, and then sit a mock American college exam.

Out of the 2,500 applicants, just 200 were invited to London for a residential course, where 175 youngsters were then shortlisted to receive a place on the programme.

Amy and Isaac gained places to study at Yale University and MIT in Massachusetts. They will attend a pre-departure residential in London in June, before jetting off to the states in August for US summer school week.

Amy and Isaac will experience US higher education and culture, and also take in the sights of Harvard University.

Liz Hooper, head of Ysgol Bro Gwaun’s sixth form said: “We hope both students have an action packed and fun week and wish them all the best for their US experience.”
