A CHARITY rugby match is being held this weekend in memory of a Fishguard woman who lost her life to an aggressive form of cancer.

AnnaMarie Davies died three years ago this month, leaving her husband Evan and their three children, SarahLouise, Steve and George heartbroken. She was just 42-years-old.

The family was told her death was caused by a very unique cancer which is very difficult to detect in the body, and when discovered, is almost too late to treat.

Evan described AnnaMarie as ‘a very loving wife and fantastic mother,’ who would ‘light up any dull moment with her laughter and smiles.’

As a family they decided to do something positive in her memory and set up a tribute fund with the aim of raising £20,000 to buy cancer diagnosis equipment. They are already well on the way, having raised more than £10,000 through various fundraisers, such as bike rides and bag packing.

The latest event is a charity rugby game at the Grange Pitch in Fishguard on Saturday, May 24, featuring a squad of ex-players and future Fishguard and Goodwick RFC first team players.

The day starts at 1pm, with a bouncy castle and gladiator experience for the kids, followed by kick off at 2pm. After the game, everyone will head back to the rugby club for a hog roast, charity auction, and entertainment by the Dhogie Band.

Evan said: “We as a family are overwhelmed by the kindness of friends and neighbours who have helped and continue to do so. For that we say a massive thank you from the heart as it goes to show how many people truly care, and speaks volumes for exactly what type of character AnnaMarie was. She is always in our thoughts, gone but never forgotten.”
