A YOUTH music event held in Fishguard on Friday, May 30 has been hailed a huge success.

The free event was organised by a group of young people from Fishguard with support from Pembrokeshire Youth, Fishguard and Goodwick Youth Club, the Youth Town Council and Alcohol Concern Wales.

Held at Ffwrn, it gave youngsters the chance to showcase their musical talents in front of a live audience.

The evening started off with a small group taking part in a bongos and drums workshop with youth workers and band members.

It was followed by talented solo singer named Lucy Rose Campbell and a band named Hooked, which attracted a large crowd. The final act Beware the Tortoise ensured that everyone danced the night away.

The town clerk, Sarah McColl-Dorian had a hand in organising the event with the Youth Town Council. She said: “The whole evening was a great start to what we hope will be regular events. I had mocktails on the go for everyone and probably made about 200 of them."

She added: “I can't say how great it was to work with this enthusiastic group of people. The musicians, sound technicians, and young people involved were absolutely amazing.”

Marc Mordey, Communities Together project manager, said: “One of the aims of the evening was to have a good time without alcohol needing to be involved, which was what the young people themselves said they wanted. Alcohol Concern was really pleased to be invited to support the event, and we hope to be able to do so for future events."
