MEMBERS of the local community are being invited to have a say on the future of Fishguard Town Hall.

Fishguard and Goodwick Community Forum has held two public meetings where people agreed that the community would be better served if the management of the facility was taken over by a local community trust.

The town hall is currently run by Pembrokeshire County Council, which is said to be prepared to negotiate if the community can produce a plan for a viable enterprise.”

As a first formal stage in the process, the forum is looking to find out what the public think of the idea, particularly as to what additional functions the building (including the hall) could be used for.

It is asking for people to deliver their responses to the town council office in the town hall, or respond by email to fandgcommunityforum@gmail.com

During the last week of June the office will be open every day to receive suggestions.

The results of the consultation will be announced at a public meeting in the market hall on Wednesday, July 2 at 7pm.

The community forum is collaborating with Fishguard and Goodwick Chamber of Trade and Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council, as well as its partners in the town team in taking the project forward.

A forum spokesman said: “We urge everyone to contribute to the discussion, particularly by engaging with groups to which you may belong within the community.”

Speaking at the last town council meeting, the deputy mayor, Councillor Richard Grosvenor said: “We have identified a source of funding to produce a business plan and we have to show that taking the town hall over would be a viable enterprise.

“We also have to demonstrate that the community is going to back us on this.”
