A REPORT on the future management of moorings at Abercastle Harbour is due to be discussed today (Wednesday, August 6) by members of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

Abercastle Harbour provides a number of moorings which have been managed at a community level for many years, with the local boat owner’s association sub-letting the foreshore from the National Park.

The Abercastle Boat Owners Association recently changed its legal status to that of a community interest company and discussions between it and National Park officers have resulted in an agreement for a new 13 year sub-lease, effective from September 29 this year.

Under the terms agreed are a pre-agreed stepped annual rental over the first three years of the new lease at £32 (year 1), £42 (year 2) and £52 (year 3) per mooring respectively.

The terms and conditions will be similar to those already in place at Newport, Solva and Porthclais Harbours.

The officer’s report says the new lease is an ‘opportunity to provide long term stability for the future use and management of the moorings at Abercastle, reduced management costs for the National Park.’

It will also provide the mechanism to ensure that future changes in rents, whether collected or paid by the Authority for the moorings at Abercastle, Newport, Solva and Porthclais mirror each other and fall due on exactly the same dates for as long as reasonably possible.
