A YOUTH music event in Fishguard is set to return bigger and better this weekend.

Following the success of Fishguard’s inaugural Sound of Youth event last May, another is due to take place on Saturday, September 13.

The venue will again be Ffwrn and there will be workshops in POINT and the newly acquired POINT print works.

During the workshops youngsters will get the opportunity to take part in jamming sessions and sound engineering, giving them the chance to play different instruments and how to set up a PA system and manage sound levels. There were also be UV face painting and ‘mocktail making’.

The idea for Sound of Youth came from Marc Mordey from the Communities Together/Alcohol Awareness program and the Town Clerk, Sarah McColl-Dorion.

They aimed to introduce the Youth Town Council to the young people in the community and to promote alcohol free events.

At the same time Steve Lewis, a local community youth worker, was working on a project with a group of young people who felt there were a lack of youth music events in the area.

With the support of several community groups, ‘The Sound of the Youth’ was formed.

Sarah McColl-Dorion said: “The aim of the Sound of the Youth is for it to become a regular part of Fishguard & Goodwick’s music calendar.

“The Sound of the Youth has a vision of becoming bigger, with larger music events and perhaps even evolving into a ‘Sound of the Youth Festival’ in the not too distant future.”
