Cries of “Mum, Dad the park’s gone” could be heard from disappointed youngsters in Goodwick last week.

A large section of the wooden park, including the toddler slide, parallel bar slide, monkey rings, balance bar and associated platforms have all been removed after rot was discovered in the structure.

The park was installed in 1992 after fundraising efforts by local parents. A spokesman from Pembrokeshire County Council could not confirm if the equipment would be replaced, but said a review of the play equipment at all parks in Pembrokeshire was imminent.

“Maintenance officers from the county council regularly inspect the equipment at play parks in Pembrokeshire, and recently they have noted the deterioration of the wooden play equipment at Goodwick Park,” said the spokesman.

“A number of the structural wooden pieces had become rotten and as they were beyond repair, there was no alternative but to remove them. As several pieces were interlinked, some other sections also had to be removed.

“We understand that it is very disappointing to children when play equipment is removed, but, it presented a health and safety danger as the equipment was deemed unsafe.”

Goodwick county councillor, Gwilym Price, said that he would ask questions at County Hall.

“I will look into the issue and make sure that it is returned or something put in its place,” he said.

“These are hard times but this is important.”
