RESIDENTS in Fishguard and Goodwick joined in the Great Purple Scavenger Hunt on December 11, 12 and 13.

The event was organised by the town clerk Sarah McColl-Dorion who wanted to raise money for Epilepsy Sucks UK. The charity provides anti-suffocation pillows for people who suffer epilepsy seizures at night.

Sarah has a six year-old daughter with epilepsy.

She said: "Our lives have been changed dramatically because she has seizures and we don't know when they will occur. Frighteningly, these seizures sometimes happen in her sleep. Seizures when asleep can lead to suffocation and this is a very real fear myself and many parents live with every single day and night."

The scavenger hunt also aimed to encourage people to visit local businesses in the run up to Christmas.

So far £934.15 has been raised, with the Fishguard and Goodwick Lions collecting £324. The chairman of the Lions, Rhian Lloyd presented a cheque to Sallieann Gould, the founder of the charity, on Sunday, December 14.

The idea behind the scavenger hunt was for people to find purple objects in local businesses across three days, collecting raffle tickets along the way.

Every item they found earned them a chance to win in the grand raffle, which had a top prize of a £900 travel voucher donated by Conygar. The lucky winner was Rubina Sherali, who kindly donated £100 back to raffle.

Other prizes were kindly donated by Mayberry Kayaking, Oakwood, the Jewellery Elf, Edelweiss Antiques, Stiwdio Heritage, Fishguard Bay Hotel, The Bridgend Inn, Sanz, Billies Textiles and The Marpet Fund.

Sarah said: “A massive thank you goes to the Lions for spending hours outside the Town Hall collecting donations.

“Thanks also go to Ed Heritage of Stiwdio Heritage for taking all of the photographs and Angela and Nigel Barrah from Pembrokeshire Press for producing all the posters and tickets.

“Thanks to Theatr Gwaun, Cresswell's Cafe, The Ocean Lab and The Shop on the Square for selling tickets and providing support and The Old Coach House for providing the venue for the prize draw.”

She added that following positive feedback, the scavenger hunt will be back again next year.
