FISHGUARD and Goodwick Town Council was due to reconvene last night (Tuesday) after the Christmas break.

On the agenda was the issue of councillor vacancies, with three positions to fill following the departure of Lorraine Howell and the resignations of Adam Benson-Davies and Chris John last year.

Lorraine never formally resigned, but did not attend meeting for six months, which meant she was automatically considered to have left the town council.

Chris John resigned in November after moving out of the parish. He stressed it was not linked to the Public Services Ombudsman investigation which was ongoing at the time. He said his decision was simply due to him moving to Mathry closer to his new job on a different farm.

“In doing so,” he said, “I was now outside of the catchment area. I therefore had to tender my resignation as councillor for Fishguard North-East Ward; a decision I did not take lightly as I had always wanted to follow in my late grandfather’s footsteps onto the town council and delve into a political career.”

Adam resigned at the start of December, stating personal reasons.

He said: “I feel that I am no longer able to give this position, in which great trust is placed, the amount of dedication it richly deserves and that to continue would be to do the electorate, whom have entrusted me with a sacred duty, a great disservice."

He also vented concerns about the goings on at County Hall at the time, stating he had lost trust in the elected county councillors.
