THIS weekend (February 21-22) sees the 218th anniversary of the Last Invasion of Britain.

To mark the historic event, Fishguard Arts Society is staging a re-creation in miniature of the famous Battle of Fishguard inside the ballroom at Tregwynt Mansion.

Ex-Army tank commander Martin Small and his colleague Mark Davies have modelled the scene on a scale of 1:5 with exquisitely crafted miniatures.

Leader of the invasion force was the Irish American Colonel William Tate, who landed his 1,400 troops at Carregwasted Head, near Fishguard, on February 22, 1797. Two days later Tate had been forced into an unconditional surrender.

The events are re-created brilliantly by Martin and Mark, who will be be giving talks at 11am and 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

As well as the war games re-creation, on display will be artefacts from the time, together with the design for the Last Invasion Tapestry - created by Elizabeth Cramp.

Celebrated Welsh Harpist Delyth Jenkins will also perform a program of Celtic music on Saturday evening. Tickets at the door are £6 and the concert will start at 7.30pm.
