A CHORAL concert in Haverfordwest has raised more than £400 for the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal.

Organised by the women’s section of the Royal British Legion, the annual concert was held at St Davids Church, Prendergast, as part of their calendar of fundraising events.

Among guests to enjoy performances from the Landsker Singers choir, including the Junior and Little Landsker sections, was Mayor of Haverfordwest, Councillor Jackie Westrup.

Cllr Westrup, who was accompanied by her daughter and consort Mrs Karen Brown, said the Legion was a cause close to her heart.

“My late husband was in the RAF, and we always used to come to the concert together.”

She added that it was important to continue supporting veterans and serving troops, and to recognise the contribution they have made.

Leading the choir was Mrs Shirley Williams, and accompanying on piano was 21-year-old Owain Lewis, from Wiston.

Standard bearer for the ladies’ section was Mrs Tricia Hall, followed by Mr Richard Devonald, Mr Martin Phillips, and chairman of the Haverfordwest branch of the Legion, Mr Ken Humphreys, carrying the Burma Star.

Anyone wanting to join the women’s section or help with future events should contact secretary Mrs Mary Evans on 01437 763514.
