Pembroke & District Amateur Swimming Club held their 39th Annual club championships earlier this month and again showed the depth of quality swimmers Pembroke Club has in the pool. The swimming has never been better at Pembroke where the swimmers set several new record times. The older more established swimmers that swim at national level once again put on a super demonstration of quality fast swimming for the Mayor of Pembroke Dock Jane Phillips and Deputy Mayor of Pembroke Aaron Carey before they presented medals to the winners. Jonathan Orchard lowered the club 100 metre backstroke and butterfly record times before lowering the freestyle record to a very impressive 55 seconds. Not to be out performed Carys Thomas showed that the boys did not have it all their own way with 5 new record times with a clean sweep in the Girls 16 and over age group. The very promising club and County swimmer Alice Sloan who is 10 years of age swam with the 11 year olds and won 4 of her races setting 3 new records in the process only county swimmer Rosie Llwellyn aged 11 stopped Alice completing a clean sweep when she won the 100 metre Breaststroke in a new club record time. To show how strong the swimming was virtually every event attracted several heats. Very pleasing for the club coaches was the younger swimmers several of them only 6 years old. At such a young age they demonstrated a high degree of skill which bodes well for the future of Pembroke & District swimming club. The Club Committee wishes to thank all the poolside helpers, timekeepers etc. and to Mrs Carole Veale, Mr Bob Adams and Mrs Ann Adams for their most valued support and expertise on running this competition. Thanks also go to Milford Haven Port Authority for their support in supplying medals for this event.
