A WALWYNS Castle wind turbine application is due to be heard at a meeting of the council’s planning committee on Tuesday, January 7.

The applicant is seeking permission to erect two 55kw wind turbines on land to the south and east of Solbury Farm, each measuring just over 34 metres high.

Planning officers have recommended that the plans be approved subject to conditions, including a standard time limit for implementation, compliance with noise levels and development in accordance with revised siting details.

The turbines can run for up to 25 years and the site must be restored afterwards.

The site is located approximately 1 kilometre to the north of Tiers Cross, and to the east of the local road which runs from Tiers Cross to Ratford Bridge.Turbine one would be sited around 300 metres to the south of the Harvest Care Home, and turbine two 450 metres to the east.

Four letters of representation have been received raising objections.

Tiers Cross Community Council has a number of concerns in relation to the distance of the development from the highway, the proximity to an access track to Broadland Farm, the potential impact of the turbines on grazing cattle, and the impact the turbines would have on the bat and barn owl population.

Walwyns Community Council has given its approval to the proposed development.
