PUPILS at Tasker Milford School did their bit for national Volunteers Week by wearing silly hats to school on Friday (June 6).

The Paul Sartori Foundation contacted the school asking if staff and students would like to get involved in the charity’s 'Hats Off to Volunteers’ fundraiser to show appreciation to volunteers and the amazing work they do.

Assistant headteacher Mel Corp said: “We were happy to. It’s a local charity and a very good cause. The acting headteacher Helen Lewis was very keen to show her support.”

“The pupils each paid £1 to wear non uniform and some went the extra mile and sported silly headwear. It’s an easy way for them to get involved. We are also holding a charity bake sale as well.”

She added: “We’ve got all sorts of silly hats here today, from the usual baseball caps, to jester hats, blue wigs and even a cow.

“I’ve got a terrible habit for wearing hats in class, so this is an especially enjoyable day for me.”

Half of the money raised will go towards the Paul Sartori Foundation and the other half to the marine conservation charity Ecover Blue Mile which protects the UK’s seas, shores and wildlife.

Ms Corp said: “Ecover was suggested by our geography teacher Mr Richards as it ties in with the work the students have been doing in class. A lot of the students have chosen to wear blue today.”
