THE recent annual Haverfordwest Enterprise Fair was host to a fair-trade stall in aid of Ugandan children.

Pupils dressed up as giant bananas from Coastlands C.P School raised a total of £254 by promoting fair-trade bananas, holding a banana quiz and also by selling fair-trade recipe books.

The stall, located at the Riverside Market, also sold handmade beads made by children from the Goodwill Community School in Uganda. All of the money raised will go back to the Ugandan school to help fund their education, given that it is not state funded.

Coastlands pupil Megan Clarke said, “These beads are so pretty, it’s amazing that children our age are making them so that they can go to school”.

Head teacher Mr Paul Harries added that the school were indebted to Kate Lock for all her hard work in organising the schools participation in this year’s fair.

The project will contribute to Coastland pupils global and local citizenship projects and form a part of their Pembrokeshire Sustainable Schools Awards.
