A HAVERFORDWEST woman raised over £200 for the charity Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust by abseiling 75ft down Pembroke Castle.

For Maria Dullaghan, 29, the cause could not be more personal. In October 2010, aged just 25, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Following a hysterectomy, Maria had to undergo a gruelling course of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brachytherapy, to “be on the safe side”. She started treatment on her 26th birthday.

Mother-of-one Maria – her son was eight when she received her diagnosis – is now clear of cancer, and remains keen to raise money to help other women suffering from the disease.

Her family also do their bit: Maria’s mum, Angela, recently co-organised an afternoon tea party in aid of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, and volunteers for the charity’s helpline.
